CPAP Desensitization
Through desensitization you will become sufficiently "used" to the new sensory inputs from CPAP equipment that you can actually sleep. Unassisted, this process may take weeks or months.
Remember the last time you saw an optical illusion (just stare at the blue dot for a moment and see the waves). The sense of smell can play similar tricks on your mind. Conscious attention can focus on only one thing at a time. And because our sense of smell is directly connected to the emotional centers of the brain, nothing brings about feelings of comfort, peace, calm, and relaxation better or faster than good smells. Our products have helped thousands get used to their equipment!
Cognitive Distraction and Other Brain Tricks
By focusing your attention on an aroma that you find pleasant, other sensory inputs cannot compete for your attention. This is called "cognitive distraction" and it's a powerful feature of the sense of smell. Accomodation is another part of olfaction, meaning that the brain quickly adjusts to pleasant smells. This part of olfaction will help your mind accept your therapy more quickly!
CPAP distractions can be so overwhelming that many people give up on therapy despite the consequences of untreated apnea. Your subconscious mind has the ability to tune out these distractions once it accepts that they are not threatening. Unfortunately, this process can take a long time to happen by itself.

Passive Diffusion
It may not look like much but it doesn't take much of your favorite aromatic to make all the difference! The system uses a raised tray and a specialized compressed fiber material. Just a drop or two of your favorite aromatic placed on the pad lightly scents the air as the air is drawn into your CPAP. It's fully compatible with all types of positive airway pressure equipment.
Imagine closing your eyes and feeling your frustrations melt away as you revel in th elight scent of orange and clove, peppermint and lime, or authentic French lavender!
CPAP Irritations and Bad Smells
Without the PurSleep System, your sense of smell may actually work against your therapy. Plastic CPAP components often emit minor levels of volatile organic compounds such as vinyl chloride (the "shower curtain" or "new car" smell), known chemosensory irritants even if you're not aware of their presence. This may cause discomfort and irritation especially for patients using newly-manufactured equipment. The PurSleep System substitutes pleasant scents for chemical odors, putting your nose to work for you, not against you.
